You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to chloramphenicol. You should not use this medicine to treat or prevent any condition that has not been checked by your doctor.

How to Use Chloramphenicol:

Injectable

• Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given. Chloramphenicol is given through a needle placed in one of your veins.
• A nurse or other trained health professional will give you this medicine.
• Chloramphenicol is not for long-term use.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

• Make sure your doctor knows if you are using any antibiotics or any other medicines, especially medicines that may weaken your immune system, such as steroids or cancer medicines.

Warnings While Using Chloramphenicol:

• Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease or liver disease.
• Chloramphenicol lowers the number of some types of blood cells in your body. Because of this, you may bleed or get infections more easily. To help with these problems, avoid being near people who are sick or have infections. Wash your hands often. Stay away from rough sports or other situations where you could be bruised, cut, or injured. Brush and floss your teeth gently. Be careful when using sharp objects, including razors and fingernail clippers.
• Chloramphenicol should not be given to a child without your doctor’s supervision.

Possible Side Effects While Using Chloramphenicol:

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

• Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing.
• Bloody or black, tarry stools.
• Severe headache, depression, or confusion.
• Severe vomiting or diarrhea.
• Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness.
• Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, or body aches.

If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:

• Mild nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain.
• Pain, itching, burning, or swelling under your skin where the needle is placed.

You should not use Cephalexin if you have ever had an allergic reaction to cephalosporin medicine such as Ceclor®, Velosef®, or Suprax®.

How to Use Cephalexin:

Capsule, Tablet, Tablet for Suspension, Liquid

• Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to use and how often. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than your doctor tells you to.
• Cephalexin comes with patient instructions. Read and follow these instructions carefully. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
• You may take Cephalexin with food or milk to avoid stomach upset.
• Shake the oral liquid well each time you use it.
• Measure your oral liquid dose carefully with a measuring spoon or a medicine cup.
• Keep using Cephalexin for the full treatment time, even if you feel better after the first few doses. Your infection may not clear up if you stop using the medicine too soon.

If a dose is missed:

• If you miss a dose or forget to use Cephalexin, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to use the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

• Store capsules and tablets at room temperature away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
• You may keep the oral liquid in the refrigerator for 14 days. After that, throw away any unused liquid. Do not freeze.
• Keep all medicine away from children and never share your medicine with anyone.

You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to any cephalosporin medicine such a Keflex®, Ceclor®, Velosef®, or Suprax®.

How to Use Cefadroxil:

Tablet, Capsule, Liquid

• Your doctor will tell you how much to take and how often.
• You may take your medicine with food to avoid an upset stomach.
• Shake the oral liquid well each time you use it.
• Carefully measure the oral liquid dose with a measuring spoon or medicine cup.
• Keep taking your medicine until your doctor tells you to stop, even if you feel better. If you stop taking the medicine too soon, your infection may come back.

If a dose is missed:

• Take the missed dose as soon as possible.
• If it is almost time for your next regular dose, wait until then to take the medicine and skip the missed dose.
• You should not use two doses at the same time.
